Tyne Bank Brewery brews Mocha Milk Stout chosen by Twitter fans (VIDEO)

BREWERS are to give their fans the beer they want – after asking their Twitter followers for ideas.

In the autumn Tyne Bank Brewery invited a group of its followers on the social networking site – the “Twitterati,” including bloggers behind Oh Beery Me, The Ale Trail and Bottle Capper – to an open evening in the brewery, and asked them to tell it what beer they would like to see brewed.

“Overwhelmingly they said an Imperial Milk Stout,” said managing director Julia Austin, “but we decided to do a 6% Mocha Milk Stout just to make it a little more interesting. And that’s allowed us to work with people like (Blaydon-based coffee roasters) Pumphrey’s.”

Head brewer Mark McGarry said making the new beer included using both cocoa powder and a “fruity” coffee to create the Mocha taste.

The result is to be launched at The Free Trade Inn on the evening of Friday February 15.
