Allendale brews Star Wars beer Far Far Away IPA

Northumberland’s Allendale Brewery has brewed a Star Wars themed beer to mark the annual May 4 sci-fi celebration.

Available exclusively at The Central pub, near the Gateshead end of the Tyne Bridge, Far Far Away IPA is a single hopped black IPA brewed, appropriately enough, with Galaxy hops and fermented using Belgian ale yeast.

“The beer was brewed exclusively for the Central Bar Gateshead as part of their May 4th Star Wars themed celebrations,” the South West Northumberland firm’s Claire Charlton said.

“They requested a Black IPA and to make it special we decided to ferment it using a Belgian yeast which imparts a slightly spicy and fruity ester to the beer.

“The 4.5% ABV is appropriate for the 4/5/14 but was a nice coincidence rather than a firm goal.

“Dee Spencer at the Central chose the beer’s name and also suggested Darth Vader as the theme. Our designer and Director Lucy Hick ran with those ideas and in conjunction with our new branding produced the sneaky Darth clip.”

Far Far Away IPA is the 70th beer in the brewery’s continuing experimental END series.
