Burglars broke into the Tap and Spile, at the corner of Eastgate and Battle Hill in the centre of Hexham, some time between 11pm on Sunday October 13 and 8.45am the following morning.
Northumbria Police believes that a large amount of cash was stolen.
Neighbourhood inspector Kevin Oates said: “Enquiries are ongoing, including doing house to house enquiries in the area and checking for any CCTV.
“I’d urge any witnesses or anyone with information about who is responsible to get in touch with police straight away.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
