Popular city pub to close for refurbishment

Bacchus in Newcastle is set to close for refurbishment – but will open again in time for a Siren Craft Brew tap takeover.

The popular High Bridge pub will be shut next Monday and Tuesday, July 8 and 9, with a possibility it could run into Wednesday.

“It’s just cellar stuff really,” said manager Andy Hickson. “We’ll be renewing pythons (beer lines) and trying to do couple of bits and bobs of other stuff at same time.

“But there won’t be much you’d notice, just bits of tiling.”

Following the reopening the pub has a tap takeover planned for Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July, with seven cask Siren brews – Undercurrent, Sound Wave (both the normal and dry hopped versions), Broken Dream, Liquid Mistress, Experiment 366, and Even More Jesus VIII – the 11.4% mint imperial stout Siren created in collaboration with Evil Twin.

Sound Wave, Broken Dream, Liquid Mistress and Limoncello will also be available on keg.
