Bodega adds permanent Fyne Ales pump after beers sell out in record time
A PUB manager is looking forward to serving some of his favourite ales after adding Scotland’s award winning Fyne Ales permanently to his pumps.
Ben Rea, boss of the Bodega on Newcastle’s Westgate Road, will today see the Argyll brewery’s beers take over one of the eight spaces on his bar.
There they will join other permanent fixtures in Oakham Ales, Durham Brewery and Big Lamp’s Prince Bishop, and four rotating guest options.
“I’ve decided to have a permanent beer from Fyne Ales on mainly because whenever we have had their beers on recently they have sold out in record time,” said Ben.
“I also think that their core range of beers are exceptional and they are always doing specials which are very good as well.
“I know that when other pubs in Newcastle have Fyne Ales they sell out very quickly as well so if people know that they can always get one here hopefully it will increase custom.”
The Sir John Fitzgerald-owned Bodega, with its traditional long bar, Victorian stained glass domes and elaborately tiled floors, was Camra Newcastle & Northumberland Pub of the Year 2005 and often attracts a large matchday crowd en route to and from Newcastle United’s nearby St James’ Park.
And Ben is hoping his latest offering will prove a hit with drinkers.
“My favourite Fyne Ale has to be Jarl, closely followed by Avalanche and Hurricane Jack – which, funnily enough, is the order in which they will be appearing on the bar,” he said.
“After they have gone it will be Fladda Rock ‘N’ Roll which is one of their special new beers.”
