Anarchy and We Are Knuckle Dragger join forces for Brewdog Newcastle beer launch

A KNUCKLE dragging hop monster will be creating anarchy at BrewDog Newcastle as rockers and brewers team up for an evening of beery musical delights.

North East craft beer fans can currently look forward to a summer of good tunes and good brews – kicking off with the launch of local trio We Are Knuckle Dragger’s self titled beer.

Made by Morpeth-based Anarchy Brew Co brewers Simon Miles and Andy Aitchinson the 8.3% double IPA is packed with big bitterness and powerful aroma.

“I met up with head brewer Andy to discuss a recipe and it was pretty obvious that if the beer was in any way going to represent the band it had got to be big, bold and complex with nothing to hide,” said drummer Shaun Abbott. “It obviously had to be a DIPA and will be the strongest beer Anarchy have made.

“It will not be for the faint hearted so don’t come crying to us if you drink too much and end up riding the Sage in Gateshead like a donkey.”

The launch night, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 27, kicks off at 8pm, with musical support in the form of fellow Geordie band Fax Machine, plus special limited edition goodies like bottles and T-shirts brought in for the occasion.

“We chose BrewDog for the launch as we’ve played there before and really enjoyed the vibe – there’s no stage, nowhere to hide – we may set up right in the middle of the bar! And no other venue in town has such a beer selection,” said Shaun, whose tunes have been described as the “bastard-child of experimental metal, punk and hardcore.”
But as for what the band will be drinking on the night, that could be anyone’s guess.
“Knuckle Dragger are a mixed bag when it comes to what beer were into,” said Shaun.

“I’m big into hops – like hugely – and lately I’ve been supping huge American barley wines and have got a taste for chilli beer.

“Bassist Pete is partial to a beer cocktail while guitarist Aran is more easy going and drinks pretty much anything – though our favourite BrewDog beers are 5am Saint and Anarchist / Alchemist.”
