South Shields tavern continues remarkable run in Camra Pub of the Year contest
A PUB boss is in seventh heaven after seeing her inn named among the best in the region for the seventh year in a row.
While The Steamboat, in South Shields, may have missed out on Sunderland and South Tyneside Camra’s Pub of the Year title in 2013 – it went instead to Sunderland’s Jarrow Brewery-owned Isis – it has continued it’s remarkable run of form within the group’s top three, with a second place this year.
Branch chairman Mick Wynne said the consistency was quite a feat.
“To have been in the top three for this competition for the last seven years is quite an achievement,” he told pub manager Kathleen Brain.
Within the last seven years The Steamboat was named SST Camra’s Pub of the Year three years in a row – going on to place second in the regional competition – then for the past two years it has been runner up.
