Sonnet 43’s Lambton Worm adds rooms and jobs in £195,000 refit

Sonnet 43 Brew Co has reopened the accommodation at it’s Chester-le-Street pub The Lambton Worm following a £195,000 renovation.

The tavern – one of the Coxhoe-based brewery’s three brewery taps – reopened in early 2013, with the first phase of the building’s refurbishment focussing on the ground floor bar and restaurant areas.

But now, after months of work it has turned its 14 first floor bedrooms into “high-end, boutique style” ensuite offerings with “imported ornate Rococo furniture and a Bluetooth stereo speaker docks” – with all of the rooms named after a variety of hops.

“There has always been accommodation at the Lambton Worm but it had become very rundown and required a lot of work to get it back up to code,” said the brewery’s managing director Mark Hird.

“But I think the bedrooms now have a real ‘wow-factor.’ The décor is very chic and contemporary and I think many people will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of bedrooms considering the modest nightly rate.

“We’re hopeful it’ll be a great accommodation offering for visitors to County Durham.”

The refurbishment of the accommodation has created five extra part and full-time jobs at the Lambton Worm, which was crowned Best Cask Beer Pub in Scotland, the North East and Yorkshire at the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards last year.

The new rooms include doubles, executive doubles and family rooms, with prices – including breakfast – initially starting from £30 a night.
