New student brewery taps into drinkers’ creativity with logo design contest

Stu Bru logoStudents have launched a competition to try and get beer fans to design them a logo for Newcastle University’s new brewery, Stu Bru.

Announced in August, the venture – “run by students, for students” – will see students grow their own hops, learn to make beer, then bottle, market and sell the final tipple to their fellow students through their Students’ Union bar.

The new enterprise hopes to have its first beer on the bar in early 2014 – but before then it is looking for a logo, and offering a £50 to whoever comes up with the best.

Would-be designers are asked to come up with “a modern, urban brand,” then send it electronically using the Newcastle University Students Union website by the closing date of December 2.

But it’s not the first time that a North East brewery has looked to the creativity of drinkers – last year Tyne Bank Brewery ran a competition to design the pump clip for its new cycling themed beer Peloton Pale Ale.
