Double delight as Head of Steam twice named Durham Pub of the Year

STAFF at Head of Steam Durham are celebrating after picking up two Pub of the Year titles in two days.

The former Reform Place tavern, off North Road, was named Best Pub by its local Best Bar None scheme, then followed it up a day later with the Bar of the Year prize from the Durham City Retail Standards group.

Manager Simon Ritson said he and his bar staff were delighted by the recognition, which comes less than three years after the Hexham-based pub group took over.

“This is unbelievable,” said Simon. “When you think that this pub was on its knees only three years ago, you cannot imagine how delighted we are.

“This is a marvellous achievement and I’m really proud of all my staff, who’ve made The Head Of Steam the fantastic pub it is.”
