Rat Race Ale House named Pub of the Season

IT DOESN’T even have a bar, but Hartlepool station-based Rat Race Ale House has been named Cleveland CAMRA’s Pub of the Season for Autumn 2012.

The current CAMRA North East Regional Cider Pub of the Year has previously been Pub of the Season in Summer 2010. “It wasn’t as surprising as winning the Regional Cider Pub of the Year, but it’s still nice to be told such good news” said Peter Morgan, the Landlord, who first found out he’d won the award early last month.

Since opening in November 2009, Rat Race Ale House has served a total of 649 different beers from 220 different breweries, something Pete is proud of. “Pub of the Season is something that’s bound to come around again after a certain while for good pubs, and I’m pleased to have won it again.”

The small one-roomed pub tries to have all of its 4 handpulls serving a different cask-conditioned real ale at all times, and also strives to have 1 cider and 1 perry on sale, too. Despite its small size, Pete & Kate offer table service, and serve their drinks in oversized lined glasses to ensure you get a full pint.
